You misunderstand me. I do not think the Russian Mafia will permanently damage PAAS, but I do think they will milk the situation for all they can. I realize of course that it is not Bill Gates' money in PAAS' treasury, but I disagree that the mafia would view PAAS the same as any other company with or without Gates.

<Russia as a nation would be a big loser and their government knows that... so help should be forthcoming...>

OK. Maybe I'll reconsider PAAS when I see the government protecting foreign investors from the mafia. But that is not what I see now. What I see now is PAAS having to pay a mafia toll.

In the larger picture, even if Russia didn't work out, it's still has a good future.

If the lease is enforceable, it appears PAAS has anticipated that the mill might be transferred to another owner by specifically making the lease valid under any owner (mafia or otherwise). If true, somebody has just made a poor 12 million dollar decision.
