Greg, does JDSU have a product which combines its active and passive components into a single unit? The reason I ask is it would indicate a privileged position for them, relative to their competitors.

Thanks to anyone who can provide so info in this regard.

Anyone watching the ratio of JDSU to OCLI? I've been taking "pulse points" by dividing the stock prices (OCLI price/JDSU price) during the morning. You can also see this by the net change of each stock. In fact, OCLI is sometimes up MORE than JDSU today (point wise).

It seems to be slowly tighening this morning. I'ts gone from .851 last week to .862 (or so.....)

That means that those who bought OCLI are getting some of their "free" money, as OCLI is moving toward that .928 conversion point.

RE: "What is needed to have JDSU move into the S&P 500? "

A vote by the committee at S&P.

Many people are unaware that the S&P 500 is not simply the 500 largest stocks. It is more like a large-cap mutual fund.

As Guy pointed out, it just needs a vote. What makes me very positive on the prospects of JDSU's inclusion is the addition of Yahoo. S and P had stayed away from internet or speculative stocks until the inclusion of AOL a while back. It took a long time before they decided upon Yahoo. Lately, i have noticed a lot of companies with market caps of about 6 to 15 billion being added. After the Yahoo decision, I became more optimistics on this possibility of JDSU. The list of the Nasdaq100 market caps that i posted a few days ago, makes the addition of JDSU inevitable (in the near future, IMHO).
I wonder if the move up on the addition of a company is dependent upon the market cap. It will take a lot of buying to get the number of JDSU shares that would be required---due to the market cap weighting of the stocks within the 500.
The recent smaller additions did not move nearly as much as Yahoo---a very large company(by market cap) amongst the potential candidates. A $50 move in JDSU should be pretty easy when it is added.

I cannot image that S and P is ignoring JDSU. They want a representative grouping of stocks. JDSU would be the first of the larger fibre optics companies to be added which is another reason it is a strong candidate.

Just my thoughts
