Well you certainly should not apologise for this, though many Roman Catholics have written books and made films about similar matters that were profoundly ridiculous. So I do not think Roman Catholicism had much to do with it in itself. Catholicism has no special virtue about it that it can cause better war films than those by Jews. Jews believe in family, honour and all these things you mention at least as intensely as Roman Catholics (arguably more so). No. I think this is hogwash. The power behind Braveheart is Mel Gibson, perhaps Gibson influenced by Roman Catholicism, but Gibson nevertheless. Had he been a Jew, we would likely have seen a different film, but one just as intense and lovely.

Yes. I see. No. I asked you to compare the battles in "Ryan" with those of "Braveheart" and when you responded assumed you were claiming that Gibson's Catholicism made the difference, a claim I find ridiculous. I see you simply gave an impression on Braveheart apart from my question, an impression I quite agree with.

Neat observation about Gibson's Catholicism lending insight into the sense of the sacred and what was worth fighting for.

I heard that his father gave a lot of money to the Society of St. Pius V, a group that broke with the Society of St. Pius X. They thought the Lefebvrists were too accommodating to Rome! They truly are sedevacantists.

What did you think of the Battle of Agincourt scene in Henry V? The one with Kenneth Branagh, not the Olivier. It just may surpass Braveheart in its realism and intensity.
