Mike,

RE:"I know your background in cyrix / amd, isn't it premature to be pushing
athlon on this thread, volumes are not that high yet.

Dell did not get were they are with amd did they?"

Someone PMed me this question pertaining to your reply...
Maybe you can answer them?
"Jim what did he mean by "Dell did not get where they are"?

Did he mean:

In the CPU bug killing business? or
Being Intel's #1 Beta Tester or
On allocaton for high performance CPUs? or
Stuck without an alternative supplier? or
Having to replace defective motherboards? or
Stuck with making a "gut shot" chipset work? or
Short inventory for Christmas? or
Eating memory cost hikes due to the Intel/RAMBUS induced shortage?

or did he mean something that just escapes me??

----

As far as DRAM prices..yes they have stabilized, but at much higher levels. Dells model worked great as long as component prices are falling. Let's see what happens when they rise sharply like that.
Let's also see what all the Floppermine delays do to Dells bottom line...that's TWO speed bumps this quarter...and people wonder why Dells stock price is wallowing...not to mention being sawed off at the knees by the ISP rebates of up to $400...

Regards, Jim

This is what I think could happen to Dell.

Intel brings down GTW, is Dell next?

RESEARCH ALERT- Salomon sees Gateway Q4 revs limit

NEW YORK, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Gateway Inc.'s (NYSE:GTW - news)
fourth- quarter revenue growth
will be limited by a shortage of Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - news)
chips, but the personal computer
maker should still manage to meet earnings expectations, Salomon Smith
Barney said on Tuesday.

-- Shares of Gateway fell 2-7/8 to 68-1/4 in early trading on Tuesday on
the New York Stock Exchange.

-- Analyst Richard Gardner told clients that supply constraints on Intel
chips would ''certainly'' limit upside to revenue estimates for
Gateway in the current quarter.
