Well I'm glad cnbc did something on this because it is not the first time these big cap techs have been added to some index and nobody knows how this works. As I say there was a discussion on the yahoo thread but I don't think they knew what they were talking about either. I suspect the cnbc info is right. The dow additions didn't do too much for msft and intc, maybe its a non-event, who knows...

Oil: No shot meant for you, just wondering if the logic was sound. If the fund managers can and do buy in advance, the close could be a non-event -- except for precipitating selling the next day.

Per ML's estimate, the S/P demand is approx. 13.8M Yhoo shares at the current $280 closing price. At any one point in time, the idex pie stands still, zero sum gain, therefore, in order to add Yhoo shares, some other shares will have to go.

Does it sound right?
