Dale,
Informix (IFMX) was hit hard a short while ago due to market perception that they had overpaid for a company called Ardent. It seems like a reasonably fair price to me. This morning they released the PR below. I am in at 9 3/8 and 9 11/16. Might be good for a day play if nothing else.
Informix to Accelerate Java Application Deployment through Cloudscape Developer Program --Free Developer Licenses to Industry's Leading Java Database Eliminates Hurdles for Java ISVs in Bringing Products to Market-- NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 1999-- Underscoring its commitment to deliver robust, e-Business solutions for the i.Economy and its strategic support for Java(TM), Informix® Corporation (Nasdaq:IFMX - news), the technology leader in software infrastructure for the Internet, today announced the Cloudscape(TM) Developer Program.
The new developer program demonstrates the continued dedication by Informix to sponsor development innovations by providing first-class support programs. Through the program, Informix will provide software and support services to assist emerging companies in creating new Java applications.
''The Cloudscape Developer Program eliminates a major hurdle faced by small Java Independent Software Vendors namely, the cost and commitment required to build and launch their applications. By providing comprehensive services and free licenses for the first year, we have removed the risk for these emerging organizations,'' said Jim Bolton, Cloudscape General Manager at Informix. ''In our industry, there is a history of innovation that has come from independent companies with vision. Through this program, we are fostering the continued innovation that the Java community has initiated, and we are empowering small firms to bring their great ideas to market.''
Under the terms of the new program, Java Developers who enroll in the program will receive free copies of the entire suite of Cloudscape products, including Cloudscape, the leading Java database, Cloudsync(TM), a sophisticated synchronization component optimized for distributed environments, and Cloudconnector(TM), a software package that enables users to access Cloudscape databases using a Web browser.
In addition, the program enables Java developers to obtain 120 single-user licenses or 12 multi-user licenses or the equivalent at no charge. These licenses can be resold to customers thereby providing a simple and cost-effective mechanism to launch a new Java application. Also included in the program are a complementary year of Informix support and access to the Cloudscape Developer Web site, (Informix Developers Network), membership in the International Informix User Group, and access to a Web forum where developers can share ideas, learn about other Cloudscape applications and interact with other Java developers. Further, a section of the Informix Web site has been dedicated to deliver technical tips and related material. Java Developers who enroll in the program will also have the opportunity to showcase their products at Informix partner forums and other Informix sponsored events.
Cloudscape and Informix Internet Foundation.2000(TM) together, empower customers to capitalize on the opportunities of e-Business by enabling them to create smart synchronized applications that can be deployed cost-effectively outside the firewall. When synchronized with Foundation.2000(TM) the Cloudscape database scales to support centralized, enterprise applications, to deliver outstanding performance of distributed Web-applications at all tiers of the business.
''Cloudscape complements our existing Informix product line, and is the database most optimized to develop Java applications. With the addition of Cloudscape 3.0 to our product line and the introduction of the comprehensive developer program, we are fast becoming the de facto database for all Java developers,'' said Malcolm Colton, Cloudscape Marketing Manager at Informix.
The Cloudscape Developer Program will accompany the general availability of Cloudscape 3.0, the industry leading Java database, on approximately December 15, 1999.
