As I said, I do not really have a dog in this fight, but I do know something about the viewpoint. The Apostles were supposed to have handed down various doctrines to the bishops who succeeded them. Remember, it is the Church that decided what belonged in the Bible, and the Church that articulated the doctrine of the Trinity, for example. The Church is the Bride of Christ, and the theory is that it, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, can never stray too far from its primary task of salvation, although its members may sin, including bishops........
