Mike: Back in the old days on the AOL/Fool networking thread when you, CTRAUT (the original and femine Merlin as you may recall) and I were discussion thin clients and fat servers, you seemed to be up on SUNW as well as Citrix. Citrix provided the thin client software and Sun Micro the fat servers. That is still so

Fat servers are where Sun still makes its money.

It has never, repeat never, attempted to make money from Java (or Jini - its newest major software innovation).

This is why it is so absurd to think of Sun Micro and Microsoft as business rivals. They make there money in entirely different ways, Sun from hardward and Microsoft from software (and miscellaneous new partnership and other - almost banking - ventures).

But others here know much more about MSFT than I.

But Java is now very agile and extremely pervasive. And will be more so - especially in embedded uses, wireless devices and any place small size is a key element.

This is all completely aside from the attempt by Microsoft to "enhance" Java for exclusive use on Windows. The Windows market is not important to Java (or SUNW), but of course is essential to MSFT.

Suggest you and others here might find it interesting to look at Sun Micosystems through plain lens not dark or colored ones.

Viva la Citrix BTW.

Respect and best as always,

Cha2
