I don't think there's anything wrong with preferring your friends ~ and I am glad that you are candid about your biases. It makes it easier to know where you're coming from when you lecture people about civility.

I feel a great deal of personal and intellectual distaste for Daniel, so I am less likely to intervene on his behalf Edwarda, I don't want to make an issue of this but I would like to point out that I have the exact same sentiment for others here as you know... however if you choose to snarl at Daniel I don't put myself in the center of your argument... I don't try to defend the other party to you - or imply that anyone's unacceptable behaviour is justified thanks to somebody's interpretation of some forgotten event, etc. I can assure you that if I did do that, you would likely find it distasteful.
