If I were in front of my computer in the last 15mins before the close, I would probably do the same thing; Sell. I would assumed that the bad news has leaked out.
Now, I tend to believe it's panic selling + stop loss as someone pointed out already.

lml, if you look at total volume after 4pm, we are talking at least 250k.
Could be that someone who initiated sell was buying after 4pm.
