I don't know, brass sounds better than plastic. Plastic will keep breaking, and brass will last. Of course, you should have been offered the choice, but it doesn't sound so bad if the brass thingie cost $150. Although it does sound like they buy their parts at the same place the Department of Defense buys its $400 toilet seats.;^)

I spent $239 on a plumber two years ago. Got a new large capacity, extra efficient water heater installed and the old one hauled away.

<<And if they give me the crap about this 150 dollar brass valve, which could have been an 18.50 plastic one according to the other plumbers, >>

Better go to a good lumberyard. The plastic valve is closer to $10 and the brass one around $30. It's a simple pressure plunger.

Are you interested in buying a bridge? I have a couple of then on sale cheap today.

I think the toilet/plumber turmoil is a result of the
GaugiePost5K problem. At about the time he made
his Post No. 5000 today, I was standing in line at the
supermarket watching a total collapse of the credit card
payment system when the woman in front of me tried to
pay her $279 total with a combination of debit and credit
cards. It took forever, or at least seemed so.

But I'm relieved that my electricity and water are still
turned on, so maybe Gaugie hasn't hurt us too badly ... :)

If you had gone to Home Depot you could have bought valves, flappers, floats, wrenches, teflon tape, plumbers grease, and still had $200 left over. Sucker......
