That was really nasty! Really!
And just who was going to put all this together, Mr. Q? My husband happens to be out of town all week, and this weekend is filled with swim meets, church stuff, and business parties. I don't mind paying plumbers, etc, to buy him (and me) freedom from these house things at all; he hates them and I hate seeing him do them; he has enough stress at work. We long ago decided that that was a fair trade off, but I DO object to being ripped off.

And could have bought a book that would tell her in pictures and steps exactly what to do and how to do it so simply that even a mechanical idiot could do it. That would drop her savings from $200 down to $180, but of course she saves the same $200 on every future repair.

Plumbing used to scare me. Then I realized that I can do most of the simple stuff myself. I haven't yet replaced a toilet, because of the major downside if you do it wrong, but valves and stuff like that are childs play if you have the right book and supplies. And there is a major sense of independence knowing that if things go out on a Sunday morning you're not at the mercy of some jerk who was up drinking until 2:00 the night before.
