Sure it will be a commodity. One where demand outstrips supply. Where can you string new fiber? Certainly almost exclusively over or under existing right-of-ways of current utility companies. It's just too costly and political to create new right-of-ways. Where is Enron doing this outside its midwest utility holdings? Here in CA/Silicon Valley its WCG and QWST stringing the most. WCG is even using old coastal jet fuel lines that go inland to AFB's. Plus, these new installations in the west will have brand new more flexible switching gear than some that MCI have today. Hey, I added today just because I have a 5 YR time horizon for this issue. If their gross revenue fails to expand at over 100% per year for the next three years, I will be truly surprised.
