Re: "For example, the recent error with the SSI has been confirmed by none other than Intel, a BIOS workaround is on it's way. There are reasons people do not like their secret stuff out. I bet Nixon would have liked all that taped stuff to have never seen the light of day."

Bill you got things backwards. Intel didn't confirm a rumor in The Register. The only way The Register even knew about the errata was because Intel published it in their errata list. You also claim a BIOS fix is on it's way, implying it's not out yet. I would bet it's already out and in the shipping systems. So this isn't another "leaked Nixon tapes" although I know you'd love to characterize it that way. It's Intel's own public disclosure while AMD refuses to do the same. How about ragging on AMD for a little balance?

Re: "Does the register creat false news? "

Bill, did you bother to read that errata list the Register referred to? I just did. It describes E56 as "FIXED" meaning "this item has been PREVIOUSLY fixed".

Sorry to spoil your day and so much for the Register's integrity.

Bill, Re: "As for errata? Where can you find that AMD errata list? At least Intel publishes it for the world to see, apparently(Elmer)
AMD does not. Is there an industry site where such errata can be found that is not subject to AMD/Intel spin control?"

AMD errata made public? I don't know. One thing though, if AMD ever hopes to get into the server business, they had better come clean with errata lists. The boxmakers get and use such lists from Intel for months before they ship, in development of their servers. It's expected.

As far as getting as much mileage out of this PIII errata, what's the point when we have no idea what skeletons Athlons have in the closet (and all CPU chips have them). Athlon could have some that have a much higher probability of failing than the PIII one. We don't know because AMD won't tell us!
