Netscape's home page has always been among the most-visited Web sites, since the days it acted as a default for virtually all Internet users as start page for the first commercial browser. But its peak users are day-time surfers, while parent company America Online's peak use comes in the evening hours. A key feature of the new home page are prominently displayed "business" and "leisure" buttons that emphasize the home/work split. Under the terms of the deal, Telescan said it will provide a range of stock screening tools using their ProSearch technology for the investment research department of the personal finance channel. WorldNet, one of the largest Internet service providers, said it would let its 1.8 mln subscribers send instant messages, or text transmitted immediately across the Internet to friends and contacts, to users of AOL's messaging product. Currently, there is no industry-wide standard for sending and receiving instant messages, so each company has written its own version.
