I believe NT slipped past LU for world leadership this year on its strength in SONET - specifically its OC-192 products, where LU had no competitive answer until this most recent quarter.

It appears my statements were correct. NT has 32%of the world market. LU has 27%. NT dominates the OC-192 sector where LU has not had a competitive answer.

I already posted this message on the CSCO thread...

(me writing)

"I just got a call from a client of mine and they told me that the ATT network has crashed again today. None of my credit card authorization systems are working.

Could this be another dreaded CSCO ATM fiasco. I hope not!!! Anybody got any info either way?"

Mr. Fun, have you heard anything?

Clay

may i ask, Mr.F, could nt's sudden jump friday and lu's loss of momentum have been caused by nt's possible acquisition of qtera, which claims it can transmit data 2400 km without regeneration, versus the 400-500 km limitation of nt's present networks: i.e. that the aquisition would confirm nt's leadership in OC-192. a converse take on this: if lu already has this technology and nt has to pay qtera 2.5-3 billion to get it, nt could be hurt. btw, corvis claims 3200 km w/o regeneration and cien claims 5,000! would you know if lu is strong here?

i've printed and cut to wallet-size the last paragraph of your december 10 comment on the lu thread so i can re-read it every time i get shaky about the big play i've made on lu and nt. i know they can't miss over time, but i fear the builders of the 'net will suffer when the e-tailers have their inevitable shake-out. my father used to say, "when they raid the whorehouse they take everyone including the piano player."
what concerns me now is that nt has perhaps 90% of the OC-192 market, and that appears to be optics' future. no doubt nt's OC-192 customers have maintenance contracts with nt, and will keep going back to them. others may go to nt for net construction because nt has the experience. perhaps i should drop the lu component of my investment.
