Copeland: I too heard a while back that the NYSE & NASDAQ wanted to sharply increase margin buying power. Kinda scary. Brokerage firms make a lot of money on margin accounts via interest charged on borrowed money. This has been true for as long as I can remember.

There's quite a lot in common between brokers and bookmakers; both love to see their clients in "action"; both try to balance their positions; both make their money in the form of "commisions."

I'm not knocking it, that's simply how it is. (Lee)
