Soak the screens overnight in vinegar, is my $.02
We have very hard water. Once a year or so I have to vinegar soak the shower head to remove this crust that ruins the jets. Getting to be about that time, in fact.

Chris thinks we might have low-flow water faucets. These are usually installed in apartments and housing complexes to save on water bills, but maybe we've got them here.
