Peter, this may help, courtesy of WRS.

There seem to be some very intelligent posters collecting at YAHOO. Go to WIND quote and click msgs. I wish the better ones would join SI but I don't think It'll happen. Free is better.

Peter,

In tools I meant development tools such as a compiler, a debugger, or an emulator. For example, I consider Zinc a development tool.

In application I meant browsers and plug-ins specifically. Browser is basically an Internet-browser that handles HTTP protocol, parses the HTML code, and renders the graphics on a display. Plug-ins are additional layers above the browser, such as JavaScript, Java, Real Player, or Flash. An example of an application developer would be Espial.

I am claiming that application support is important, because I think WRS' future lies in the Set-top or Information Appliance market. (I2O will be big too, but I think this will be bigger.) These are devices that offer traditional appliance features with the addition of Internet browsing capability (and maybe IP phone and Video Phone, which is what Liberate is doing.)

I ran across an article about Linux in an old issue of TIME today:

pathfinder.com

It seems from this article that Linux isn't easy to install, and in fact, might be very difficult.
