Vital Statistics - 12/7/99

DVD title sales jumped to 817,000 for the week ending Nov. 28, 1999, increasing by 204,000 titles from last week, topping last year?s DVD title sales and setting the record for DVD titles sold. Year-to-date DVD sales are spectacular at 16,563,000, and with the holiday season closing in, sales will probably surpass the 20 million mark before the ball drops at Times Square.

For the month of November, DVD player unit sales to dealers were a little low at 483,602, a 253.2 percent increase from 1998 while projection television sales were up at 133,706, a 23.2 percent increase. Year-to-date, total DVD player unit sales to dealers are 3,460,008, a 304.3 percent increase and projection television sales are 1,082,656, a 14.4 percent increase. Although these sales are not stupendous, keep in mind that there are still less than three weeks left in the holiday shopping season and predictions indicate that DVD will be a massive seller this holiday season!
