I don't think the parents who publicly humiliated the child should have parental rights terminated, but I do think that they shouldn't do it again, and that it would be good for the family to go to family counseling, and for the parents to go to parenting class, at a minimum. I think the parent who did it (mother or father, I don't know) might be mentally ill. My understanding of foster homes is that they are not always a good solution. If we could wave a magic wand, if there were a perfect family just waiting for a 12 year old boy with a troubled relationship with his family, it would still be terribly traumatic to the child to be taken from his family, in all likelihood.

I think it is too late to help that child who was tied up, Christine. I'm sure he thinks he's a dog by now.

Are you saying that parents who tie a child up with a sign that is very cruel and publicly humiliate him shouldn't lose their child?

No - I honestly don't know. I only vaugely recall the incident. I don't think I offered an opinion when I posted it... I think Jim Barrett was questioning if kids could get taken away for whatever... I certainly think its cruel - plus what kind of mind could come up with that? If I recall, she said she had "tried everything else". Except that if this kid was willing to sit there like that it doesn't seem like he's completely uncontrollable. I don't know - its impossible to answer these questions unless you have kids I think.
