Ah, it's not always that way. The most entertaining stock discussion threads ever may have been Iomega for several months in early 1997, lots of now deleted posts, and the brutal early nscp/msft thread, which produced some great, long term posters(some of whom became internet investors/speculators and others who developed into gorilla buy and hold types. Both made huge money, but fought the initial battle over M vs. Nscp).

Unicom to Announce CDMA bid winners in January. JohnG Monday, December 13, 1999 TELECOMS Unicom to name network suppliers soon Fledgling telecom operator China Unicom will announce equipment suppliers next month for the construction of its seven billion yuan (about HK$6.53 billion) nationwide cellular network. "Bid winners will be announced in January next year, first-phase network construction will be completed the following summer," Tan Xinghui, Unicom's planning and marketing general manager, told the China Daily Business Weekly yesterday. Foreign suppliers engaged in joint ventures with cellular network manufacturing capabilities in the mainland will get priority in the bidding, Unicom vice-president Lu Jianguo said. Bids from 12 foreign and domestic companies were presently being evaluated, he said. The US-standard cellular network will offer mainland customers an alternative to the European GSM system. The GSM system presently dominates the mainland's rapidly growing mobile-phone market. Nortel Networks and Motorola currently have formal network joint ventures in the mainland, while Lucent Technologies has the capability to manufacture equipment in its local joint venture. The report said the mainland's State Council, or cabinet, recently approved China Unicom as the sole negotiator in dealing with related matters including intellectual property rights matters and joint venture proposals. The company announced earlier this year it planned to invest seven billion yuan in a nationwide network with initial capacity of two million lines, expected to expand quickly to 10 million lines. A November 15 Sino-US agreement on the mainland's WTO entry allows foreign investors to hold 50 per cent of stocks in telecommunications firms, which have so far been barred to them. Voop I will tell you why. Once upon a time, way before Voltaire, Lindy, Uncle Frank, JW and the majority of current posters were here this thread was by far the best on SI. We had Pery la forge posting here, Gregg powers, and a host of knowledgable investement and Qcom insiders. We discused the fundimental's of 3G, The Ericy issues, and the business model that is Qcom. If you go back a year and read the thread you can see for yourself how informative this thread was. It was like getting an MBA, and an engineering degree. I remember many of those guys Jim frost, C hare, Gdchaz, Go*Qcom, MMEGS. There were a host of others. These people brought valuable information not available to the average investor. Back then the stock, and the company got no respect. We were the only few who stuck it out with our conviction, and are knowledge seeing us through. We are probably all Millionaires now(can't speak for them),and Qcom is the shinny diamond now. However with this massive assent has brought the barbarians at the gate. The people who still dont understand the baisic fundimentals. All they care about is the magical appreciation in the stock price. The magical power of splits, and press releases. They discuss this ascent in price day in day out. they talk about 2% moves in the stock as if it were the end of the world. There is nothing wrong with this in its own right, however in their arogence about their belief that Q will never hit any bumps, they have dismissed the value of the old guard. Why? Because they think that stocks just go up because MM manipulate them and stupid fools keep buying higher. Its like why understand science when you can just assume God is responcible for everything. These people one day will need the insight of some of these old posters, but insist on alianating them anyway. I am a pragmatist by nature, If Gregg Powers, or W Malloy, or C Hare want to insult me I say "sorry sir" and shut the F#@K up. Why? Because I am here to make money not to prove that I have the bigest prick in the room. These people are invaluable to this thread and derserve a certain amount of respect. On numerous occasions I have eaten crow in regards to getting my tail bit off by Gregg Powers. I didnt start a pissing match and intentionaly try to antogonize him. What would that have proven? I wont cut my nose to spite my face. however certain people here seem intent on doing it. As the stock goes up they become more arogent and more carefree about the content of this board. One day, hopefully not soon, something will happen and we will need this insight. We wont have it. We will have great market comentary, but no real insiders in the wireless industry to explain complex technologies that many of us dont understand. As the price goes up it gets worse and worse. So Voop that is why in my opinion as the stock goes up it just gets worse. Edit: One last comment, WMalloy has put money in my pocket so I will defend him to the grave. He went out of his way to teach me, when he didnt have to. As much as I like JW I will not stand idle whille he is floged by the gang of barbarians. If Voltaire has made some of you to make money I would expect you to do the same for him. The current posters have taught me NOTHING, so I hold litlle regard for their posts. The day they teach me something I dont know I will kiss their buts too!
