Neither of the two. Connectics already had obtained this technology, from XOMA, years ago. It was however in a dilemma as it needed to make a scheduled or final payment to XOMA or the rights would revert back to XOMA. Connectics, in its' SEC filings said the technology had merit but that it was going to concentrate its resources on other products, and seek other alternatives for (my words) dealing with the scheduled payment. Apparently the deal just made was acceptable to all. I do not think it was for much more than the original deal. I would estimate at most $6 million in consideration. The Xoma/Connetis deal was for about $3.5 million in cash. See footnotes in 1995 XOMA annual report.

Above from memory and speculation on new deal. If you rely on it my defense to any jury will be that you are so stupid you were born without any BPI at all and no one can be responsible for what you or your hunting dog does.
