<I wouldn't be surprised if SUN wasn't one of the second group of systems houses to offer an ITanium Server - late next year ! >

Neither would I. Compaq is already leading in most server benchmarks vis-a-vis Sun with current Xeon. Sun will get its butt kicked big time once Compaq moves to Athlon based systems.

To remain competitive, Sun has to make a choice between x86 or IA-64 and I think Sun will probably make the wrong choice again and suffer the consequences of going to a low-volume platform. Good for Intel and bad for Sun.

Every vendor who has bet against x86 has lost - for a good reason.
