Meow. I am one of the new cats. I caught wind of this stock after hearing about it on Moneyline on CNN. It had just peaked at 270 and was begining to slide. I started to do some research. Learned what they produce, fibre optic components, and who they sell it to, Lucent, Nortel, Ciena, WorldCom, and who they hope to sell it to, Cable Companies. I bought at 259, 248 and 234. I am a long term buy and hold kind a guy. Even though it has had a great run lately I don't think it's out of gas, but I'm looking for a quick hit. I think there is a great story here and it will spread and new buyers wil lbe coming along all the time. The current price action is not unexpected or unprecedented after such a huge run.

To whom are the "Houses" going to sell the stock they've been gathering? Where are the new cats going to come from at this point?

$3 to $5 billion a week coming into the market. 1999 IRAs, 2000 IRAs, year end bonuses, several million baby boomers now post kids college cost and salting it away for retirement. Oldest boomers to hit age 55 next year. The "Houses" will find a place to sell to.

Most market makers always try to end each trading day "flat" (no un-hedged long or short positions).

This idea of a "they" or "them" that are doing "things" is something I see all over SI.

I think it is ridiculous. Market makers earn their living on the bid/ask spread.

If you want to complain about the size of the bid/ask spread, then ... there is a logical topic to "whine" about !
