Yes, I could relate to your story. He started reading early, but talking late, something that happens in some children, no one knows why, and so he was behind in his speech when he took the first test. They were going to assume that he was quasi- autistic and mildly retarded, and discounted almost everything we said to counter the diagnosis, on the assumption that parents can't accept things. He kept being upgraded in special ed, and was out by the end of six grade, after the sixth grade specialist said that she couldn't figure out why he had ever been in. Now, he is on the honor roll...
