I think I'm gonna hurl if you keep pushing this "marketing and design" angle much further, slacker... Nokia didn't get the recent upgrades for their knack of painting bunny rabbits on phone covers. They got the upgrades on the back of their GPRS, WAP and W-CDMA strength. Like it or not, GPRS is the only mobile data solution that is a commercial success with operators. WAP is the real mobile internet break-through technology and expertise here is potentially worth a lot more than "marketing and design" skills. Mobile internet revenue growth is coming from GSM markets right now - that's where the relevant gear is being sold right now.

I agree with slacker711,

Did people think that Nokia needed the actual plastic factories when the meat is the designers and expertise that the QCOM people on this thread continue to trumpet? This is low margin stuff. The questions that will only be answered in an official announcement (if at all) are what IP will Nokia get and what chip purchase agreements may come out of it.

Since Nokia and QCOM will no longer be competing on handsets it makes sense for them to try to encourage Nokia to make CDMA handsets as well as net work infrastructure all the while paying (hopefully lowered) royalties to QCOM.

If this is what the market is reacting to then I think it is a miscalculation. Perhaps a good dip to add for the very long term.

JMHO, comments welcome,
