I have my new computer together and the OS installed and over the weekend will install lots more software. After that, I get to the networking. Now I have a lot of reading to do on that, the post you put up a while ago with lots of links as well as some other references including Microsoft's manual which came with WIN98 SE.

Right now I have a couple questions I wonder if you could answer. I am only networking two computers so I was going to use a crossover cable, however I did pick up an Intel Inbusiness switch when buy.com was giving them away, just in case I would need it at a later time. I wonder if there is any advantage in my using the switch now or if it will just complicate matters. I probably have enough to figure out with out another piece of hardware. But the answer to this relates to my second question about my DSL modem. I am about to order DSL service from Bell Atlantic and must decide on an internal modem or an external modem with a network card. In this whole stew of networking and switches and DSL and modems is there a setup that is clearly advantageous?

Sorry for such a long-winded question but my networking experience is zero. I know there is a lot of reading for me to do on this but I would appreciate input on this general question.
Thanks
Bob
