CSW Webmaster on Canadian Feed Delays: Recently there have been delays in our Canadian quote feed, particularly at heavy times such as the open. The Canadian exchanges each have what is called a "Vendor Feed". This feed contains all quote/trade information for that exchange. The established broker systems, such as PC Quote, Stardata, Bridge etc, have installed separate data links to each exchange. They receive them independently. There is also what is called the "Canadian Consolidated Data Feed" or CCDF. This is a service provided by the TSE. The TSE collects the vendor feeds from all the other exchanges (and itself) and puts them all together into a single feed. This is the feed that we use, and so do all the other non-broker Internet services including Canstock, Stox, and who knows who else. This is a well established service that has been in use for over ten years. It is the CCDF that is suffering delays and the problem is occurring at the TSE. I have been on the phone with their market data manager and they are aware of the problem and they are working on it. I BELIEVE they are taking it seriously. We expect to receive an official notice from them, and when I get it I will post it to our System Status page. That is why PC Quote does not have this particular problem at this time. If you were using Canstock or Stox you would experience the exact same problem. The Market Depth feeds, which are separate, never have delays as far as I am aware. The servers at Stockwatch are NOT OVERLOADED and NEVER WILL BE. The ticker servers are literally incapable of introducing a delay to the feeds. We monitor server load constantly and we have absolutely no problem with buying more horsepower whenever necessary. We distribute our load amongst many machines and we keep the CPU load figure to UNDER 50% even at peak times. There are circumstances under which you may see a delay on your PC if it is overloaded. In this case you will see warning messages in the ticker. There is an explanation on the System Status page about this and what you can do about it. If you have any other questions about this please send an email to me at webmaster@stockwatch.com. ----- The preceding information is posted on our System Status page and should also be in your inbox Chief. We take any complaints about delayed data very seriously and investigate them immediately. In my previous conversation where I mentioned delays originating at the TSE, it should have read at the CCDF feed from the TSE. The fastest way to report these problems is to email the webmaster, this email is monitored throughout trading and delay problems are immediately addressed. This remains the best way to contact us. The CCDF has been a reliable feed for us, and we have used it for years. If it becomes unreliable we will re-evaluate our use of it. Thanks, Gerry Rempel Stockwatch Java Team
