Scott, to answer your questions briefly:

1. Psion is good at OS on the cell-phone level. Psion forms an alliance with Nok, ericy and mot to form the Symbian to develop the Epoc OS. But apparently the Epoc is very robust as far as cell-phone functionality is concerned but it's not a very good OS for Palm-type pcs.

2. Nok and Mot are licensing the Palm OS - which is very user friendly - to put on their handsets. They are trying to overlay the Palm OS on top of the Epoc OS thus gaining the strong suits from both operating systems - something qcom had alreay done with their Q-phones. So Palm and Epoc does not really compete against each others, they actually complement each other.

3. The only competitor to the Epoc/Palm combo is MS Window Powered OS (right, that's the real name !). But MS Window Powered sucks and manufacturers are running away from it in hordes. Nobody, and absolutely nobody is making a cell-phone based on Window Powered OS right now.
