It's better in my account (or pocket) than in CPQ's balance sheet. What was nice with the Ford divestiture of their AFC shares (worth about .8 F shares) was that F continued to rise to new highs and they continued to increase their dividend.

Now I have both F shares and AFC shares in my account. I make the "sell" decision rather than the company depending on if I need the cash and when I should take the long term capital gain.

CPQ could do the same thing with their CGMI shares that were obtained by selling part of AV. In fact, unless CPQ plans to integrate AV into CPQ's main businesses, get rid of the investment....divest it and focus on their core group of businesses.

A complete divestiture of the rest of Alta Vista to CMGI for "new" CMGI shares, that could then be distributed to shareholders might make more sence (and a better return for CPQ shareholders) than the current plan.
