No, M&M (like that better than MM, if you don't mind), I'm afraid it was not von Otter that I heard!:-((

The voice, though trained, was not operatic, which would not have been appropriate for the music. Now that I think about it, there were a bunch of singers, but she was the one I remember. And what was being sung was a Nordic saga; the instruments were old-fashioned Scandinavian folk instruments.

The second record I heard, later that same evening, was just organ & voice, Sacred songs, but very modern arrangement. In one song, you could not have guessed that what was being played was an organ! I sat in the car in the driveway until the record was finished, so that I could learn who the singer was (and the organist too). Then I went in the house -- and forgot to write their names down. Drat! I HATE IT WHEN I DO THAT!!

Well, Joan, my reception of DC radio is spotty here.

Make sure and download the new real player 7, theres a bunch of new preset stations on there. My favorite is CBC classical from Toronto - I'm up on all the Canadian news if anybody is interested.

Theres a few from DC... oddly one is a "Spiritual" (could mean anything) WAVA from DC. Anyway you and Joan can listen to the same radio no problemo.

Michael, I did buy the van Otter CD for my husband for his birthday, and he thinks it is very beautiful. Thanks for the recommendation.

I really personally do not like most classical or operatic music. I find classically trained singers simply showing their incredible ranges and chanting and moaning and especially doing so in a gutteral way, to be incredibly dissonant and disturbing. There is one song in particular in the middle of this CD that sounds very harsh and does not FLOW at all--I was almost afraid she would break out into a yodel at one point. But I am very sensitive; I think most people would enjoy it.

I would agree that most of it is quite lovely.
