Nortel does indeed own the Sonet space. But every market leader needs to stay ahead of the technology curve, and the Qtera buy gives NT a leg up in transmitting 10 Gbps data over a long reach without regeneration.

Curtis - Nortel has only 90% market share of OC-192 so they purchased Qtera to increase their share. They are builing 32 out of 40 high speed networks. Their customers have a need for the new technology. Nortel has a market for the new technology. Nortel is aggressive. They are not content to sit on their 90% market share. I am happy for those new millionaires in Florida. They deserve it. The world is a better place because of their achievement.
