John,

Also there was talk on CNBC Friday that there will be
heavy selling in first week of Jan. when all the internuts
holders will take profits and don't have to pay taxes on
the profits for one year.

OTOH, there are billions of $$$ in 401K, 403B, IRAs, etc. that kick in on 1/2/00. Santa Claus rally... The best guess I've heard yet was a pullback at year end for Y2K, justified or not, but all other systems go. Buying opportunity on 1/2/00 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., maybe.

Oh, Fed might express tightening bias on Tuesday because of the high holiday spending.

Microsoft is now being recommended as in Internet infrastructure stock by a lot of the chief investment officer types that frequent NBR, CNBC, WSW. Other names heard most often, EMC, Intel, Sun, IBM, HP and AMAT.

Tony

Tax talk like that may be a myth. If investors have huge gains and don't want to sell this year because of taxes, then selling in January most likely will create a tax liability in April of 2000 not 2001 because of estimated tax payment requirement. In effect, the tax on gains will not be delayed by another year if one sold in January vs December.

Regards

I'm surprised the morons on CNBC haven't of the wonderful IRS tax installment payments...

So those internet sellers will move their money into Microsoft, which did not appreciate too much in 1999, in Jan of 2000.

I think buying "protective puts" on MSFT is a waste of money. Take that little bit of insurance money and buy some OTM calls.

Money better spent...
