Frank & James - Thank you for calling that article to my attention.

I found it interesting that Nortel is apparently taking a different approach than Ciena, Monterey and Sycamore.

"Nortel plans to create a common control mechanism by integrating its routers, switches and optical networking gear under a single management system, optical only companies like Ciena, Monterey and Sycamore are fusing the two worlds through routing protocols."

If Ciena, Monterey and Sycamore want to establish their new routing protocol as a standard, they will have to lobby the standards body. In the meanwhile, Nortel goes ahead with the old routing protocol.

Article does not describe which approach Corvis is taking.
