Jim, re: Markets- "Yes, this is the John Fowler I used to know.
The perception is the reality."

My post was about the consumer/end user marketplace. The current REALITY is that Intel/Pentium has probably about a 100 to 1 brand name recognition over AMD/Athlon. As recent surveys have demonstrated, Intel is one of the most respected brand names in the US, my guess would be that that distinction is probably worldwide. Can AMD overcome that PERCEPTION with a few press releases, no, good marketing has long term staying power.

Is Intel challenged by the PERCEPTION that AMD has a lead in CPU speed? A great company, a leader, is not going to allow a deceptive marketing strategy to dilute their brand. They are going to respond. That is what I think Intel is doing, and as a stockholder I believe they are doing the right thing.

Now if you think I was writing about the STOCK market, that is very different. Unlike the consumer/end user market, sentiment can change direction on a dime. But, eventually, the STOCK market can't ignore fundamentals, and the value of a company will be judged on it's performance.

Bottom line, Intel has a consumer/end user franchise that will be difficult, if not impossible, for AMD to overcome; Intel has a financial history and potential that puts AMD to shame.
