I never see teenage girls or little old ladies begging, thank goodness. Just clean, able-bodied men in clean clothing.

I used to interact on a regular basis with a hobo, who was homeless by choice. He was befriended by my old boyfriend, Justin, who allowed him to live in his garage during the winter. When the weather got warm, he'd leave, not to be seen again for months. His sister sent him money, a couple of hundred dollars a month, and he foraged in garbage cans, but he didn't beg. He was somewhat mentally ill, incapable of working, or of keeping track of what it took to keep a roof over his head. He didn't want to live in a shelter because people steal things, and he liked sleeping outdoors when the weather was nice. He was rather elderly, about 60 when I met him, but healthy. Eventually he met up with a group of nuns, who took him in, and let him act as a watchman, and kept him clean and fed. He was in heaven. He died peacefully, a few years later. He was a pretty good guy, I liked him a lot.
