but I wonder how things are going in Europe, Asia, etc.?
I just recently read that users are now going online in Australia. The rest of the world (besides the Netherlands) is still under construction.

Speaking of Canada, Cable, and "open access", after saying I hadn't heard any rumblings.. well now I have.

ISPs stalled on reselling high-speed cable Delay by cable firms

nationalpost.com

Some industry watchers have suggested a 25% discount to even the lowest price won't offer third parties a big enough margin to justify reselling high-speed access.

But she said term sheets that spell out pricing and technical set-up were sent to those who had expressed interest in dealing with Rogers -- about 20 Internet services providers -- on Wednesday.

Frank, I'm sure those words in bold caught your eye. I'm going to call Jan Innes on Monday to see if I can get a copy of the set-up. If I'm successful, I will post it on my webspace.

More on Shaw Cable's annual meeting I talked about a few weeks ago:

Shaw spends $100M on Internet system

Shaw justified the increased spending on its Internet network by saying it believes penetration levels of 30% to 40% are achievable in the next few years.

At the end of September, Shaw had more than 147,000 customers on its @Home Internet service.
