MK,

If what we're witnessing is an economic transformation similar to the Industrial Revolution or Electrification, then above trend growth, returns, profitability, etc. could last for up to 4 decades.

Everything seems to be happening much more rapidly than was ever the case before so I wouldn't expect more than another 2 decades of "justified" extraordinary returns for those companies leading this Information/Communications Revolution which is revolutionising business processes and eliminating middlemen left right and center.

RE lower interest rates: If one looks at the last 2 centuries, uplegs or downlegs normally last anywhere from 21 to 36 years. The last downleg started in 1982. If we look to the past, we can expect another 4 to 19 years of lowering interest rates.

If we merge the two points above, then it seems reasonable to me that one could reasonably expect at least another decade of above trend stock market returns. It might go for 2 decades, but I'd start getting real nervous about 15 years from now if not a little earlier.

JMHO,
Ian.
