Steve,
RE:"The poor decisions started in September, and won't end until the change"...

Actually, the poor decisions started when Andy Grove retired and paranoia was replaced by arrogance and complacency. Not to mention the flock of Peter principle candidates that have been recently elevated to key positions, like Otellini.
Andy would have seen this coming and at least had a 133 MHZ chipset available...

Mysef, <AMD has higher standards than the "current" iNtEL. AMD demoed two 900 Athlons.>

And Intel will be demoing a 1 GHz Coppermine this February in public, instead of in a "pwivate" (tm. Paul Engel) setting like AMD's 900 MHz demo.

Speaking of standards, I guess AMD's "standard seventh-generation technology" is similar to Intel's "standard sixth-generation technology." I don't think you want to know what Intel's standard for real "seventh-generation technology" is, because if it boggles the minds of Intel-a-bees, imagine what it will do to the minds of AMDroids like yourself. (Whoops, I meant to say "Mysef.")

Re: "AMD demoed two 900 Athlons."

This is probably less significant then you think. All processors have to run faster then their rated speed because of the needed Hot Electron Guardband. For a demo, you don't care about long term reliability, nor do you care if you jack up the Vcc a notch or 2 because it only has to run for a short time. Cherry picked units from an engineering skew lot would also add some zip but none of these things are in any way "manufacturable". They do make for nice demos though.
