>>Why is SI compelled to change to a "new" or "new classic" SI?<<

It's a moot point. The reality is that a lot of people are now using the New SI, and they like it. Look how upset they got when the Flip-Flop started. Go2Net can't drop the New SI, and it's probably a nightmare for them to maintain two incompatible code bases. Hence the attempt to create the New Classic SI.

I just spent a couple of days trying out the New SI. The main thing I like about it is that it uses the full screen. I've concluded I may be able to live with it if I upgrade to a 21-inch monitor and/or get some further vision correction. However, the New SI does have certain problems that I will address on the Think Tank thread.

In conclusion, I think that if Go2Net was planning on dropping the Old SI on January 1st it should give the programmers a holiday break and push out the deadline for getting the New Classic SI working properly. Arbitrary system deadlines are always a killer, especially at the first of the year. LOL, I'll never forget one botched mainframe upgrade in my state that made it impossible to process the drunks out of jail on New Year's Day!
