Dear X -- In response to your post (partly reproduced below), I ask you to please point out to me (my exchanges with Del also reproduced below) where I told Del to shut up. While you're at it, please point out to me where I expressed disrespect for Del's atheism. Good luck!

If you wish to gleefully point to evidence of some exasperation with Delbert, go ahead. There was some but it had no bearing on the points you strive to make.

Frankly, X, no one would have heard a peep out of me on this subject had Del simply noted the solstice and expressed his rejoicing in it. He could even have expressed the fact that, as an atheist, he was looking at the season in a different light than many here and wished all a "Happy Solstice" or something.

I took offense only in the second sentence of Del's original post. It seemed to me both needless and insulting.

It has not been my intent to argue any of this but I refuse to stand by while you or others distort my words and meaning. Have a good day. I have many other things to do now --

Mike

FROM X TO MIKE

I thought you WERE telling Del to shut up. And not all that politely- but perhaps (again) I misunderstood your post. What came across to me was that Del should shut up about his world view at your special time of year. Maybe that isn't what you meant to come across. Maybe I read what wasn't there. But that's the message I got.

DEL'S ORIGINAL POST THAT KICKED THIS THING OFF

Happy Solstice Christine. It's too bad that the Christians usurped this Pagan holiday and distorted it with mythological stories of a man-god. Dec. 22 is the Solstice this year, and Dec. 25 will be the first day that the daylight hours will be noticeably longer, the original
and true reason to rejoice.

MIKE'S REPLY TO DELBERT

Delbert, with all due respect for your world view, I would sincerely appreciate it if you would refrain from insulting the faith of those (perhaps only myself) who find joy and sacred meaning at this time of year.

Perhaps you will learn to be good like your son and not go around needlessly poking people in the eye. Or perhaps you NEEDED to remind the folk of their irrational idiocy. Thanks
for sharing.

THIS A PART OF COMMENT TO MIKE FROM X

And I doubt that Del will tailor his comments to suit you- after all you have the "due respect" of no respect for Del's world view (this is obvious from your postings) and I am sure he has no respect for yours. Why he should PRETEND to be other than what he is to make you comfortable at this time of the year I cannot understand.

THIS FROM DELBERT TO MIKE

<< Delbert, with all due respect for your world view, I would sincerely appreciate it if you would refrain from insulting the faith of those (perhaps only myself) who find joy and sacred meaning at this time of year. >>

Michael, I would sincerely appreciate it if Christians would refrain from insulting those from whom they stole this winter holiday, by pretending that it belongs to them. Stealing is very un-Christlike.

Please read Christine's post for the truth behind these holidays.

THIS FROM MIKE TO DEL

Del Christians stole WHAT, Delbert? Is anyone preventing you from celebrating the winter solstice? If you're a year older than me and were born on December 19, does that mean I stole your birthday? Remarkable!

Is it really insulting to you that Christians celebrate the birth of Christ, at this, or any other time of year.

I think Christine is delightful, Del, but I don't need her help in understanding Christmas.

Please enjoy the season in the context most meaningful for you and your family. Please allow others to do the same.

A turd in the punchbowl is unpleasant any time of year -- free country though.....

Have yourself a merry little solstice.
