J... Some good folks to share a crazy year, for sure! Who would expect to own a mutual fund that would have more than a 200% profit for the year? -- I had two such funds (at least to date <G>)... And today I had a stock down 5 1/2 points (CMED), and another up 6 (ENON), not to mention a stock that I really like down 17 (DPMI). I was recently regretting not holding my CORL as it ran to 46, and today it is 13, and I'm happy I don't own it.. Is that crazy, or what, J-?
There has to be a pullback in the market, and funds, at some point, don't you think? So a bit of caution might be in order?
I'll take a look at the performance of stocks subsequent to taking big hits...for example, here is York:
siliconinvestor.com
But if the company is back on track, it can look like CIEN:
siliconinvestor.com
OR, 3Com:
siliconinvestor.com
Would you say that we do have a little time to look at it, and maybe we should look for the establishment of a trend.
I'm not sure enough of my info to make a statement about the lead or lag times for photomasks, J. To be sure, the photo masks have to be in place to allow the chips to be manufactured. However, it stands to reason that photomasks would be "used up" at a more rapid rate as chip production picks up -- and those revenues would show up a quarter or two behind the chip production... I think we need to get more data, J..
Anyway, best wishes for the holidays... and cheerful investing into the new millenium!

J--- Now we are hearing a lot of folks who claim there will be a massive rush to buy stocks right after Jan 1 -- especially professional managers who have to remain heavy on cash through year end "just in case" for Y2K.
SO whom do we believe -- tech sell off for capital gains, for massive stock purchase because of excess liquidity? This could be trickier than old Dickie! <smile>
Let us now what you are hearing before the Jan rush starts -
Happy Millenium, again, J ---
