In KYO's favor, I would also like to point out there are two main forces behind the W-CDMA(or anti-CDMA2000) camp. NTT DoCoMo and the Europeans. This deal should pretty much put KYO and the soon-to-be-merged #2 and #3 cell providers in Japan in the drivers seat. I say DoCoMo is Toast.

IF Europe insists on proceeding down their course, whatever. They can remain in the technological woods.

Skip...I was in Shanghai, for the first time about a month ago. The building of infrastructure (highways and highrises) is impressive. I asked my host where the investment (for infrastructure) was coming from. He said Hong Kong, before the reunification and Japan.

The Japanese corporate presence (i.e. names on buildings, advertising, etc.) throughout China leads me to believe that there is less political dissent than a previous poster referred to.
