Ed, Don't sweat anyone taking shots at Maffei. That's what celebrity is all about! As Tony points out, Maffei will likely prove his judgement when his fiber company takes off like JDSU and all the others are. Every fiber company is a screaming buy right now! In five years the earth will be covered in optical fibers carry wave division multiplexing signals everywhere.

>>Maffei and can assure you that he is anything but a bean counter. He has
built a world class organization at Microsoft and orchestrated many difficult
acquisitions. He has great rapport with analysts and ALWAYS has the shareholders
interests at heart. He has been instrumental in making Microsoft as great as it is
today.<<

He is not doing the shareholders any good now by deserting. Good bye Mr Maffei and farewell!!

Frank

Ed Schultz:
I agree. As I indicated in this thread, in my opinion,
Moeffi is the type who wants to be going places in career,
responsibility and in life. After Snr. VP, there isn't
a whole lot of possibilities. He might have stayed if
Microsoft had spun-off MSN and made him CEO and issued
tracking stock.

Despite street viewing Moeffi as very conservative in his
guidances I always felt he was way less conservative than
Gates, Balmer and the former CFO Mike Brown. Especially 99
Jan earnings report conf. call in my opinion was bit too
bullish that almost got the company to miss estimates in
April Q. But he handled it well.

Moeffi has done wonders. During his tenure as CFO, he, I
think was a major force in growing the cash + investment
portfolio from around 8 Billion to current 40 Billion+.

Moeffi's comments during the conference calls were
enjoyable.

Moeffi knew and talked about the company's products more
than any CFO's could or would.

Greg Moeffi, best wishes to you.

By the way, how well is Connors regarded inside? What is
his style.
