ISLAMABAD (Dec. 24) XINHUA - The following are major news items
in leading Pakistani English newspapers Friday.

The News: -- Pakistan's Supreme Court Thursday declared all kinds of
"interest" un-Islamic and directed the government to introduce an
interest free economy system by the year 2001.


The Nation: -- The Independent Power Producers have suggested to the
government to allow them to sell their electricity to India as Pakistan
was wasting 1,000 megawatts of electricity daily due to lack of demand.

The Frontier Post: -- Pakistan's Chief Executive General Pervaiz
Musharraf stressed Thursday that economic revival, good governance and
removal of provincial disharmony were the priorities of his government.
