"What do you all think of Read Rite? They seem to be pretty low, a big competitor dropped out, they have new business at Quantum, and they have a growing opportunity with SDLT."

Mark -

Read Rite interests me also. I need to reduce my average purchase price. It makes me nervous to think about their component numbers in a few years when they will be producing 30gb per platter heads (15gb per platter with 1 head). Perhaps this means the 5gb platters with one head and 10gb platter with 2 heads will have long product lives to fill the void for low capacity drives. Read Rite must see the reduced demand for heads with higher capacities and price their heads accordingly for profits.

Read Rite's 9 and 10gb qualifications for Maxtor, Samsung, Western Digital and now Quantum may make them the prime head producer next quarter. Are there any other 10gb per platter programs in production? I understand Read Rite is also working with Seagate on some programs. The upcoming conference calls should give us a better view of their plans.

At these prices, I think the chance of returns may justify the risks but we shouldn't move until Stitch says its O.K. <g>

Regards,
Mark
