O.T........Inside the odd mind of pitcher John
Rocker

It's very clear actually...professional athletes are often no more different than child prodigies. since birth they have never been encouraged NOR trained for their mental capacities or social sophistication. Why is it a surprise that so many act like idiots or spew out childish garbage? Why in the world do we expect them to act otherwise? There is no biologic reason to believe that physical talents correlate with mental capabilities or maturity. Come'on, to think about what we always experienced in school, there's probably an INVERSE correlation between the two. Brain times brawn is usually a constant.

OT -- I enjoy jerks as much as the next guy, and I particularly enjoy jerks shooting off their mouths and saying what they believe. Rocker is simply exercising his rights of free speech. In a country where people can denounce the President as a liar and a crook, what is wrong with a job insulting anyone who annoys him. This is just PC run amok. Without freedom of speech, no one dare say what he believes. Without Rocker speaking out, we might have thought he was just a jerk. Now we know exactly what kind of jerk he is.

>>RE: Rocker

As odious as Rocker's rant was, we still have a pesky little First Amendment that is always in opposition to our gut reactions in cases like this. If Rocker feels a need to do some community service to atone for his acts, so be it. But for anyone to order him to do it is another matter.
It is playing right into the craziness of the modern culture to take the position that Atlanta can't be expected to get rid of him because he is such a good player, but trampling on the First Amendment is acceptable.

Steve,
When is the last time you rode the Subway to Brooklyn?

OT - Rocker

I'm a lot more offended by the dope users (Strawberry comes to mind) and women molesters than by Rocker.

He apologized for what he said. There are larger issues in life. Baseball has bigger fish to fry in my opinion.
