American catholics do not follow the Pope and Bishops on this. About the same proportion of women catholics report practicing artificial contraception as do other people. Moreover, many catholic women have abortions, although all of these things are supposed to be some kind of sin.
Of course, in Ireland, there are many people who wish bishops would practice birth control instead of criticizing it.
