Nihil, my point about the government investing in mutual funds and stocks to fund Social Security was not that it is necessarily a BAD thing, but that it is a SOCIALIST thing. You got my post exactly. That is why I am amazed that the conservative Republicans and libertarians are so strongly in favor of it. My further point is that conservatives tend to think with their pocketbooks rather than their political ideals (if they even always understand what they are). And I am also concerned about what such a HUGE investment might do to the markets. It is really an unknown.
